  • Environmental Sustainability - sustainable development, natural resources, industry pollution, transport and local communities
    • This specially designed programme is for those people who want to discover more about living by the definition that "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
    • The programme contains within it two key concepts:
  1. the concept of 'needs', in particular the essential needs of the world's poor, to which overriding priority should be given
  2. the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organisation on the environment's ability to meet present and future needs.
  • We will also be looking at the following:
  1. What is Sustainable Development and unsustainable development?
  2. What is our “eco-footprint”?
  3. What are Fundamental Natural Resources?
  4. We will also be looking at Industrial Economic Sectors, Globalisation, Waste and Recycling, Energy efficiency, Water usage, Environmental impacts of transport, different forms of emissions – food, commuting, sustainable forms of transport, sustainable communities, localisation and global sustainability organisations

Saturdays from 9.00 till 17.30 at the Roundhouse on January 21st - £65 per day

  • Thrive and prosper in uncertain economic and financial times - This course is for anyone seeking to understand how they can benefit from global economic and environmental pressures on the local economy. It is highly interactive and very practical, delivering ideas to help individuals and communities and is led by very experienced teachers from the Transition Network:
  1. Shows how the macro-situation re climate change and resource depletion, rising energy costs and enviro-economic pressures affect us – and how opportunities to thrive and prosper can be found
  2. Explains the Macro picture and identifies new ways of looking at the world
  3. Gives examples of what other communities are doing
  4. Takes delegates through their own Carbon Footprint and gives practical examples of how it could be improved
  5. Helps delegates identify options for delegates at home, in their community and at work
  6. Explains how to become a green Ambassador

Saturday from 9.00 till 17.30 at the Roundhouse on November 26th - £65 per day

  • Introduction to Permaculture – this brand new course is a basic introduction to and taster of the non-political, non-religious permaculture approach to living. It is led by an experienced Transition practitioner and permaculture diploma student and will be practical and “hands on”
