Perennial Food & Forest Gardening Course !!

Sat 15th May 2010! We still have spaces left on our Perennial Food & Forest Gardens Course. This is a practical course that will look at sustainable methods of producing your own food, temperate perennial plants, forest gardening, permaculture methods and more. General intention for the day is to enable participants to create  edible perenial plant layers to their gardens. This will be taught through a practical demontration at the existing orchard area at silverhill primary school, thereby creating a perenial food growing area. This will primarrialy involve installing a shrub layer, ground cover layer, and herb layer. Saturday 15 May 10:00 – 3:00pm Silverhill Primary School Draycott Drive Mickleover Derby DE3 0QE Cost - £25 Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to book onto this course. Please bring food to share for lunch, If you have some basic tools: secateurs, trowel, spade, gloves please bring them along. Also waterproofs and boots if the weather is bad. Start 10 am - Intro talk about forest gardening systems 10.30 am – a look at bed design – how to space plants out, understanding aspect, access,  and each plants interaction with the other plants around it. 11 am. – preparing the ground  - composts, mulching, digging and no dig techniques, as well as how to be resorsefull 12.30 pm – lunch 1.30 pm – planting and establishing the shrubs, ground cover plants and herbs. 3 pm – finnish, with a talk about on-going maintenance for the garden and uses of the plants within eg drying herbs, storing fruit. Etc
